Bushfire puts lives, homes at risk

Lives and homes are in danger from a bushfire in Western Australia's north while other bushfires around the state have been downgraded.

A watch and act alert is in place for people between Shay Gap Rd and the De Grey River, and for people east of the De Grey River, including De Grey Station, Pardoo Station, Goldsworthy, Shay Gap, the Warralong Community and the Yarrie Mine Camp.

"You need to leave or get ready to actively defend," the Department of Fire and Emergency Services warned.

A bushfire advice warning has been issued for people in the area between Marble Bar Road, the De Grey River and Ripon Island, although there is no threat to lives or homes there is a lot of smoke in the area.

An earlier alert for the Shire of Broome and Pardoo Roadhouse has been downgraded, and the department said there was no threat to lives or homes there.

A bushfire that had been burning near the Gibb River in the Shire of Derby-West Kimberley has been extinguished although firefighters will monitor the area.
